Nicki Macfarlane Lookbook Photoshoot

Today we’re taking you to a beautiful British beach for a photoshoot showcasing one of our favourite floral designs and some of the stunning dresses by Royal-Appointed children’s occasionwear designer, Nicki Macfarlane…

We adore working with a variety of vendors but we were particularly blown away when asked to create a floral backdrop for Nicki Macfarlane. If you haven’t previously heard the name, Nicki designed the four bridesmaid dresses for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding, so it is truly an honour for us to work with her!

Nicki creates exquisite occasion outfits for boys and girls in a range of different styles and colour palettes. Designing for babies right through to aged fourteen, her garments are just perfect for weddings, parties, Eid, Christenings and First Holy Communions. Any item designed by Nicki Macfarlane is sure to become a treasured family heirloom.

For this shoot, we headed to the beach at the lovely Sussex village of Camber - a popular coastal resort with miles of sandy shorelines. With an already stunning backdrop of an enchanting house set right beside the beach, we created a birch pole arch and surrounded it in glorious bright-coloured blooms using various sizes and textures. It was a pure joy to make!

Firstly we selected large, blowsy pink Peonies to epitomise elegance and complement the dresses. Soft clusters of purple Hydrangea in varying stages of bloom also made a star appearance - perfectly contrasting the luxurious combination of standard size and spray British Roses. The arch was finished off with the graceful, ruffled blooms of Stocks. We wanted our design to be indicative of happiness, warmth and affection, whilst also being eye-catching. Our creation was there to enhance the gorgeous flower girl and bridesmaid dresses, making everything about the shots feel magical and in the moment.

We’re sure you’ll agree that the photos are incredibly pretty and have captured the divine details so well! It was our absolute privilege to be involved.

A Modern Winter Wonderland Wedding

Today we’re bringing you a modern winter wonderland wedding we had the luxury of working on from the glamorous, 5-star Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge…

Let’s set the scene… a contemporary ballroom, located on the ground floor of one of the most prestigious hotels in London. A striking geometric ceiling, bespoke eucalyptus-wood walls, state of the art lighting and private entrance. The perfect place for us to create show-stopping arrangements for S+S’s dream day. Think gorgeous touches of silver foliage, white blooms galore and candlelight everywhere.

A whimsical Chuppah, captivating cloud-like tall centrepieces, a continuous garland for the top table, elegant wreath centrepieces, stunning escort card table and magical aisle decor were all brought to life, creating a contemporary twist on the winter wonderland wedding theme.

The Chuppah later separated to form two arches - one for the entrance and one as the backdrop to the top table. For this, we used a variety of our favourite flowers and some rare choices which made all the difference. These included:

  • Four Seasons Rose - a cream/ivory flower with dense petals and an extremely large bud.

  • Miss Bombastic Spray Rose - such a beautiful, petite, multi-headed rose.

  • Senecio - we love how these succulents form in clusters on long stems, white spires and yellow daisy-like flowers, leaves are thick and fleshy - deep green, some leaves are round, some crest shaped and some stand upright

  • Euphorbia - with rich coloured leaves and unusual flowers these are elegant but tough too.

  • Freesia - funnel shaped flowers with an alluring fragrance that’s fresh and sweet.

  • Phlox - star-shaped flowers, tall, eye-catching perennials finished with long and narrow leaves.

  • Moss - a small, flowerless, green plant.

For the top table itself, we designed an arrangement along the centre, filled with seasonal blooms complemented with British foliage and fragrant Eucalyptus. We studded this with pillar candles in glass cylinders to finish this elegant look.

Tall centrepieces, created with pom-poms of seasonal white blooms, complete with ferns and the leathery leaves of Eucalyptus filled tall, glass vases and ceremony pedestals. For these we selected the lacy, star-shaped flowers of Hydrangea, the ruffled, fine petals of the Patience Garden Rose, multi-layered petals and soft, herbaceous foliage of Avalanche Roses and full-finish, highly fragrant flowers of the White O’Hara Garden Rose.

Our wreath centrepieces weren’t just for the reception. Sitting on the registrars table during the ceremony, these were filled with white and cream blooms with Eucalyptus and the delicate leaves of silver Asparagus Fern, finished with a hurricane vase in the centre.

Then for our true statement design - the escort table, made from natural Birch branches with silver Birch accents was draped with white, gentian-like, bell-shaped flowers of Lisianthus and Roses. We finished this with tea light baubles, ribbons, birds and photographs… a piece denoting new beginnings, respect, love and appreciation, and one that’s sure to be remembered.

We adored working on this enchanted theme, in a beautiful venue, with a wonderful couple. We would love to help you to create your dream wedding/event through floral design too, so why not get in touch today?

Succulents and Foliage Wedding Theme

When our very own Miriam Faith florist, Kirsty prepared for her wedding last Spring, she knew she wanted foliage to play a big part in her day. Think herbs, grasses, tropical leaves and succulents. We're no stranger to a full finish, so we set to work creating the floral decor she had always dreamed of, with a few surprises and little touches carefully thrown in along the way.

For the ceremony backdrop, we decided to use Monstera Leaves, Aralia, Eucalyptus and Tree Fern to form a tropical x British blend of lush foliage, held together on a copper frame to design a show-stopping wall behind the happy couple. On a bigger scale, we recreated this for the band's backdrop (which Squiff is a part of) to extend the decor from St Luke's Church in Kentish Town to Cecil Sharp House in Camden where the celebrations carried on.

The foliage theme continued from the decor to the outfits, with us choosing to create a wild bouquet for Kirsty using Ammi, Skimmia, Pittosporum, Tree Fern and more. Because we know her so well we snuck in a few of her favourite flowers, 'Hanoi' Clooney Ranunculus too! The pastel pink and white, paper-thin petals of these flowers softened the edgy appearance of the foliage and complemented her elegant dress perfectly. Completing her outfit, we designed a Wax Flower and Rosemary headpiece tied delicately with ribbon. For the corsages and buttonholes we selected a combination of Wax Flower,  fresh herbs, dried grasses and succulents, each totally unique and a little wild.

We're sure you'll agree, the variety of these beautiful designs created depth and movement which transformed the venues and outfits. Both the couple and the florals were a joy to work with! If you would like to find out more about how we can help you to create your dream wedding/event through floral design, then why not get in touch today?
